  Bridal Flowers
Flowers denote celebration, love, happiness, fertility and prosperity. Their contribution to the very atmosphere of the wedding is significant and their very presence lends a certain celebratory air to the event. Roses, lilies and orchids have traditionally been associated with weddings but, today, there is a huge choice of flowers, colours, scents decorated with crystals, beads and fruit.

The bride’s bouquet is available in many designs and shapes such as round, trailing, pear-shaped, shower and over-the-arm. The bouquet should complement the style of the wedding dress as well as the bride’s personality and the style and theme of the wedding. The bride should have the largest and most elaborate bouquet followed by that of the bridesmaid or matron of honour and then the other attendants.

There are many different types of bridal bouquets. The bride’s bouquet should also conform to her own height proportions. For instance, a tall bride may want to hold a cascading bouquet of orchids and lilies whereas a short bride may be more suited to round bouquet of roses. Some brides opt for an additional ‘toss bouquet’ with less expensive or common flowers so that they can keep their own bouquet as a memento.
Both mothers’ corsages should be the same or at least larger than the other guests’ buttonholes. The groom’s boutonniere should be distinctive though similar to the style of flowers used throughout the wedding decoration and should echo the flowers contained in the bridal bouquet. Wedding guest buttonholes are optional but a very nice touch as it makes everyone feel involved and part of the proceedings.

The bridesmaids’ bouquets are generally the same style as that of the bride, just smaller in size. Table centrepieces should also carry this theme through and can make the lunch table look all that more special with an arrangement of fresh flowers, candles and/or seasonal fruit. A nice touch is a single fresh flower or arrangement on the back of each wedding guest’s chair which makes the guests, some of whom may have travelled from afar, feel welcome and pampered.

And don’t forget the younger members of the wedding party! Make them feel special and that they are playing an important part in the wedding proceedings by giving little girls fresh flower headdresses or posies to carry whilst little boys can carry flower baskets or fresh flower horseshoes.
