WELCOME TO JERSEY !
So much more than just potatoes & pottery!

Welcome to Jersey - the most southerly island of the British Isles, where relaxation is a way of life and nothing costs as much as it does in Britain . Just a short 50-minute flight from mainland Britain and just 14 miles off the coast of France, Jersey is most famous for its potatoes, pottery, woollens and cows but there is so much more to this beautiful island than just this. It is also an amazingly scenic and relatively undiscovered jewel in the British Crown with miles and miles of golden, sandy beaches, year-round sunshine, rolling green countryside, superb quality spa hotels, excellent golfing & water-sports facilities, horse-riding and cycling, tax-free shopping and the freshest and choicest culinary delights.

Within its tiny size of just 45 square miles, majestic cliffs, sandy bays, rocky coves and the surrounding Atlantic Ocean dominate the landscape and all are accessible by road or on foot. Due to Jersey's unique position in the Bay of St Malo, the island grows and shrinks twice a day as the tide ebbs and flows in excess of 40ft – one of the highest tidal ranges in the world.

Jersey is basically a smaller Britain , with a touch of French, and without the rain! Truly your home away from home where the language is English, the currency is the British Pound, the shops and signs are all in English and the food is the best of British cuisine – Jersey makes for the perfect location for your wedding where your ceremony will be in English too. Marriage certificates are, of course, recognized in the UK as legally binding.

With low air fares and top-end quality hotels at affordable prices, not to mention the high street stores selling the same goods at 17.5% less than in the mainland, Jersey is a very attractive destination and for those thinking of getting married abroad, it becomes an even more viable option than travelling transatlantic which can often be at exorbitant prices.

JERSEY LANGUAGE

Thanks to its roots in medieval Norman history, the native language of Jersey is Le Jerriais and it is a blend of Norse & Norman French. It is still spoken in the country districts and to this day is still used by the court and legal professions despite English now being the official language. Those who speak Le Jerriais are called Jersiais.

JERSEY CURRENCY

The good old British Pound Sterling is used in Jersey so no messing around with foreign coins or even the gruesome euro here!

JERSEY WEDDINGS

Jersey makes for the perfect location for your wedding where your ceremony will be in English and marriage certificates are, of course, recognized in the UK as legally binding.

With low air fares and top-end quality hotels at affordable prices, there really is no need to travel long-haul to the Maldives or Seychelles. Save the money you would have spent travelling and, instead, shop till you drop at Jersey’s high street shops where you can save up to 17.5% on the same goods and then pamper yourself with a few luxury spa treatments to rest those aching limbs! Stay in one of the Island’s top end five star hotels (some with multi-million pound spas) and you will be amazed at the very high quality of service and facilities at very realistic prices.

Of course nothing compares to two weeks' in the Caribbean…..but try Jersey and you will be very pleasantly surprised. Not only will you save money (which can usually amount to a small deposit towards your first home together) but you'll be amazed by the breathtaking scenery that Jersey is made of. Clear waters and miles of golden beaches with a warm, temperate climate make this Island a fast growing destination for weddings abroad. With the destination's affordability, it also becomes a viable option for your nearest and dearest to share your joy on your special day as wedding guest package prices are much, much lower than if they were travelling transatlantic!
In Jersey , you can opt for a simple civil ceremony in the registry office or you can have a Church wedding. There are also plenty of leading hotels, manor houses, heritage houses or other such venues available to make this a day to remember. After the wedding, don't waste precious time travelling to another destination for your honeymoon. Stay on in Jersey and let her beauty unfold before you as you discover her many hidden delights with sunset strolls on the beaches followed by romantic candlelit dinners at one of many fantastic restaurants or a long walk through the lush, green countryside stopping for a well-deserved cream tea and scones at a village tea house.
JERSEY SHOPPING

The Island’s capital, St.Helier, is an excellent shopping centre with pedestrianised streets and a mix of well-known High Street stores and small local shops. The attractive Victorian vegetable market and fish market, cafes and restaurants provide a relaxed ambience for browsing and buying. Lower taxes and no VAT mean that you get really good value for money in Jersey. It is also a good idea to come out of season when even more bargains are to be had. There’s no better place to celebrate those special times of the year such as birthdays, Christmas, Easter, St. Valentine’s Day and your wedding!
Outside of town there are plenty more shopping opportunities at specialist outlets where you will find items such as jewellery (eg Jersey Gold, Jersey Pearl and Catherine Best Jewellery), pottery at Jersey Pottery, Bouchet Agateware Pottery and the Little Loft Gallery in Trinity and woollen goods – why not keep warm in an attractive and durable “jersey” from the Jersey Woollen Mills at St. Ouen?
