Getting married at the Gibraltar Registry Office

To be married at the Gibraltar Registry Office is a fairly straightforward process as long as your official documents are complete and in place.

Although it is generally believed that you can simply turn up 24 hours before the Big Day and be married in Gibraltar, the reality is that you need to be in Gibraltar by, the latest, 10am on the morning (Mon-Fri only & no bank or public holidays) prior to your wedding day in order to swear your affidavits before the Commissioner of Oaths and to be allocated a time for the wedding ceremony to take place. To facilitate the process and ensure that all legalities are adhered to, we assign a wedding representative to meet you at the Commissioner meeting and to guide you through the completion of the relevant documents as well as the correct submission process.

For those persons travelling in from Spain or other neighbouring countries, we recommend that you do arrive at least two nights prior to the wedding day to ensure your presence, in good time, for the Commissioner meeting. Border control and traffic delays can mean that you miss the deadline and your wedding will not take place.

Requirements for a Civil Wedding:

•  Original, current & valid passports of bride & groom;
•  Original or certified full birth certificates of bride & groom showing both parents' names;
•  If previously married, the marriage certificates and decree absolutes of each marriage;
•  If widowed, the marriage certificate and death certificate of deceased spouse;
•  If adopted or had change of name by deed poll, the relevant certificate;
•  If non-British and not previously married, the Certificate of No Impediment or Single Status Certificate (a special exception applies to    military personnel who are previously unmarried and non-British – an official letter from your Commander stating your eligibility for    marriage is acceptable);
•  Completion of Special Licence application form;
•  Swearing of affidavits before the Commissioner of Oaths;
•  Confirmation of marriage, in documentary form, to marriage clerk;
•  Relevant visa for entry into Gibraltar.

All relevant documentation MUST be sent to the address below within the time specified by your wedding co-ordinator at time of booking the wedding. This is to ensure that your application for marriage is granted and that you face no problems when you arrive in Gibraltar. Your wedding co-ordinator will begin the process for the application when you confirm your wedding date.

Please note that it is entirely your responsibility to advise our wedding co-ordinators of your exact legal and marital status and in the event of any deliberate, accidental or otherwise omission of relevant information that might affect your application, your marriage will not take place and no refund of monies paid towards the wedding will be refunded

Our wedding packages always include two marriage certificates which are either collected by you in the days following the wedding or will be posted to you at a charge of £5 which is to be paid directly by you to the marriage clerk. This normally takes between 2-6 weeks, depending upon how busy the registry office is. All other registry office and appointment fees are pre-paid by us as per the specifications of your chosen wedding package.

Personalised wedding vows and music are permitted in the registry office but only with the prior and express approval of the registrar. This request must be submitted to your wedding co-ordinator in good time ahead of the wedding with the exact vows and music piece to be submitted so that an approval may be gained for you (only classical or other suitable music permitted before & after the ceremony and not during).
